Hot Tapping

Hot tapping — also called pressure tapping — is a precision method that allows a new connection to be made to an existing pipeline while it remains in service under full operating pressure. No shutdown. No production loss. No disruption to downstream users.

Core Service

Line Stopping

Line stopping is a method of temporarily isolating a section of live pipeline to allow maintenance, repairs, or modifications — without a full system shutdown. A line stop plug is inserted through a hot tap fitting and expanded to block flow.

Once the work is complete, the plug is retracted and the pipeline returns to full operation. The fitting and valve remain in place as a permanent asset. KMP Tapping provides line stopping services throughout Africa.

Hot Tapping Engineering

KMP Tapping provides full in-house hot tapping engineering — from FEA stress analysis and displacement modelling through to custom fitting design and complete engineering calculation packs. We analyse fittings and branch connections under live operating conditions, model stress distribution and pressure loading, and design for non-standard applications including unusual diameters, elevated pressures, and aggressive media. All calculations are produced to international codes and pressure vessel standards, suitable for client approval, third-party review, or regulatory submission.
